Did you know that more than 250 Londoners are homeless on any given night?
We are London Cares Homeless Response Services, an adaptable and forward-thinking organization who believes housing is a human right. We won’t stop until everyone in our city has safe, permanent and appropriate housing. Using a Housing First approach, we believe homelessness is a problem that can be solved.
Join our resilient, tenacious and spirited team today and help us achieve our goal! As of April 1, 2018, we have a new look and are a single agency providing this service to homeless in London.
Serving London’s core areas (downtown, Old East, SOHO), your work day will be as varied as the people you meet. You will work in a variety of settings which include parks and along river paths meeting people experiencing homelessness where they are and provide in-the-moment crisis support, harm reduction and connections to other services. You will work collaboratively with police, emergency services and business owners to help people get and maintain housing and then make that house a home. As part of a harm reduction approach you will participate in syringe recovery in the community.
This is a “feet on the street” role that is perfect for someone who is passionate about London becoming a community in which every person thrives. As an Outreach Worker you will meet folks where there are at, engaging in housing focused conversations, and act as a bridge connecting individuals with the crisis, social and health care services they require.
Our Outreach team operates 24/7 365 days of the year. This is a relief position. Relief staff must be available to work; weekdays, evenings, overnights, weekends and statutory holidays, and to provide short notice coverage for sick time and be scheduled for a minimum of 4-6 shifts per month. There may be opportunity for some regularly scheduled shifts, or when vacant posts have not been filled.
Our compensation package includes a competitive wage ($21.98 hourly) and 4% vacation pay in lieu of vacation. You will be a valuable member of our Outreach Team if you have some or all of the following:
- Post-secondary education in social service or related field
- 2-3 years of experience working individuals experiencing homelessness
- Experience with youth, Indigenous people, older adults and women
- 2 years of clinical work experience in addictions and mental health
- Understanding of harm reduction theory and experience implementing harm reduction strategies
- Understanding of Housing First with Support and Rapid Re-Housing principles
- Valid G driver’s license required
- First Aid/CPR required
All of our employees must be able to provide a clear police vulnerable sector record check.
