The Volunteer’s Role
IECD hospitality and catering projects in South East Asia aim at giving a chance to the most disadvantaged youth, through a 1-2-year training of excellence, providing them with accommodation, food, stationeries and uniform. IECD accompany the trainees from orientation and selection to first employment, ensuring them a decent and rewarding position.
IECD is currently launching a new bakery and pastry training in Yangon, Myanmar. This centre will allow disadvantaged youth to take part in a long term, fully funded life skills and vocational training program, building opportunities that may not have existed before.
You will work with (a) passionate bakery-pastry trainer(s) enabling him/them to acquire technical and pedagogical competencies, on French and Western bakery and pastry excellence. Additionally, you will support the commercial activities, co-working on the development of a range of bakery and pastry products.
As a volunteer, your duties will include:
Training - Design and deliver bakery and pastry intensive training for trainers, in line with the training objectives and the production plan
Pedagogy - Accompany trainers during the lessons, helping them to provide expertise to students.
Academic- Assist trainers in designing and updating the training curriculum according to students’ evolution and market needs (i.e. required skills, expressed by high end hotels and restaurants, to fulfill the lack of skilled labour force).
Develop a range of bakery and pastry products and their recipes, taking market demand /seasonal availabilities into account.
Essential Academic Qualifications:
Bakery and Pastry certification
Essential Professional Background:
Solid (5-year) experience in Bakery/Pastry (high end artisanal bakery, restaurant or hotel).
