Life as a Refugee 2019: A Community Event

We are proud to announce the 11th Annual Life As A Refugee (LAAR) Community Event taking place on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Conference Facilities at Four Points by Sheraton. The theme of this year’s conference is Unpacking Myths and Misconceptions about Refugees.

In recognition of World Refugee Day, the London Cross Cultural Learner Centre in partnership with the Collège Boréal, Centre Communautaire Régional de London, London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership, London Public Library, LUSO Community Services, Pillar Nonprofit Network, Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre, South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre, Thames Valley District School Board, the Western Centre for Research on Migration and Ethnic Relations, WIL Employment Connections and the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, encourages all community members to take part in this event.

We are pleased to have Sharon Bala as our keynote speaker. Sharon's bestselling debut novel, The Boat People, was a finalist for Canada Reads 2018 and the 2018 Amazon Canada First Novel Award, and on the long list for the Aspen Words Literary Prize, among many other achievements.

It will be a full day of workshops, panel discussions, awards, food, and refugee art.
