Community and Communications Coordinator (Comms Coordinator)

The Community Programs and Communications Coordinator (Comms Coordinator) position is a new part time role on the STEAM Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in marketing and communications, and is interested in creating and tinkering with tools and technology, and supporting community development projects! This is a dynamic role as the Comms Coordinator is responsible to coordinate, document and ensure execution of two new community programs that are focused on making life better for people across Elgin - St. Thomas. The role will also take on and document new maker projects each week in the Centre to test new ideas and develop original content for STEAM Centre’s social media.

This role is a one year contract offering 25 hours per week with opportunities for additional hours. The salary rate is $15-$17/hourly, dependent on experience.

Responsibilities:

Program Coordination (50%) ● Work closely with the Director of Education to identify and communicate to project stakeholders; ● Write and share the meeting agenda before each group meeting; ● Document meeting outcomes, and write project progress reports;

Communications (25%) ● Use Canva and other creative tools to design social media posts; ● Write and distribute monthly newsletters to mailing lists; ● Be responsive to Social Media interactions; ● Pre-schedule content; ● Work with the Director of Education to produce a final report for six community projects.

Creating (25%) ● Learn to use STEAM Centre’s growing collection of traditional tools and emerging technologies to do interesting creative projects in the Centre each week; ● Use cameras and video editing software to capture, edit and create maker projects for digital content;

Education and Training: The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and some college or university experience, and at least 2 years experience working with the public. The ideal candidate will have experience using a variety of social media platforms and some amount of graphic design software. Experience using hand tools and emerging technologies is an asset in this role but enthusiasm to learn and share is a must!

Skills and Abilities: ● Proficient use of Microsoft Office, and Google Drive applications ● Exceptional attention to detail ● Strong ability to manage competing priorities ● Strong communication and people skills ● Problem-solving skills ● Interest and knowledge of ‘maker’ technologies is a BIG plus ● Positive attitude, personable and helpful to all who contact us!
