Housing Selection Workers establish and maintain relationships with private sector landlords, property managers and building owners to secure and maintain an inventory of appropriate scattered housing units within the City of London.  As an advocate for the principles of Housing First you work with landlords/superintendents to facilitate open communication, clarify the role and function of London Cares and work to resolve immediate concerns and issues. Together with the housing stability team the goal is to anchor participants into their home.  Work will include open and monthly communication with property management, knowledge and regular communication with OW and ODSP offices, unit inspections and working collaboratively to quickly resolve maintenance, pest control and tenant issues.  Monitoring market trends and managing and adhering to guidelines for rent support programs is a key function of this role. Strong documentation and data collection practice helps to inform our program.

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) that works generally from Monday to Friday.  Our compensation package includes a competitive salary range of $42,000 to $46,000 annually, health care benefits and 3 weeks of vacation. 

You will be a valuable member of our Housing Selection Team if you have some or all of the following:

  • Post-secondary education in business administration or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Exposure to working with vulnerable populations including those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness
  • Experience working with private market landlords, property managers and housing partners in London
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • A working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and associated Acts.
  • A knowledge of Housing First Principles
  • Valid G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • First-Aid/CPR training
  • All of our employees must be able to provide a clear police vulnerable sector record check.
