Informed Response Outreach Coordinator

We are London Cares, an adaptable and forward-thinking organization who believes housing is a human right.  We won’t stop until everyone in our city has safe, permanent and appropriate housing.  Using a Housing First approach, we believe homelessness is a problem that can be solved.

 

As a result of active participation in a successful pilot program, The Co-ordinated Informed Response program is being continued and this is a newly created full-time contract position for one year with potential for renewal, reporting to the Manager of Outreach Services.

 

The Community Co-ordinated Informed Response Program is a caring and compassionate response that aims to support individuals who are street involved, sleeping rough, and urban camping in finding safe, alternative solutions focussed on housing.

 

As the Street Outreach Coordinator for the Community Co-ordinated Informed Response Program, you will support and oversee a dedicated team of London Cares Informed Response Street Outreach and Housing Navigator workers, to assertively and skillfully engage people experiencing homelessness who are street involved, sleeping rough or urban camping.  Working collaboratively to coordinate with City of London by-law enforcement, parks, roads and security professionals, you will ensure we meet people where they are at, provide in-the-moment crisis support, connections to social and healthcare services and linkages to safe, alternative solutions focussed on housing through our Outreach Housing Navigator.  Strong documentation and data collection practice helps to inform our program. 

 

Responsibilities include: regular coordination with City of London by-law, parks, roads and security employees, dispatching the Informed Response Street outreach team to engage with individuals directly at their site; oversee individuals referred to the Housing Navigator matched with available units. You will also be responsible for oversite of the team including; scheduling, orienting, training, supervising and performance management.  Strong accurate data collection and oversite is a must. Participation in the organizations on-call rotation will also be a requirement of this position. Previous supervisory experience along with strong community collaboration skills will be key to finding success in this position.

Our compensation package includes a competitive salary, 3 weeks of vacation annually plus a generous benefit package.  You will be a valuable member of our Co-ordinated Informed Response Outreach Team if you have some or all of the following:

  • Post-secondary education in social service or related field
  • 3+ years of experience working individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Strong understanding of mental health, addictions and trauma informed-best practices, crisis and conflict management
  • Previous experience supervising employees including knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Capable of safely de-escalating unpredictable behaviour
  • Skillful in-the-moment problem solving with a calm disposition
  • Strong knowledge of community resources in London to provide individuals with system navigation
  • Understanding of Housing First principles
  • Valid G driver’s license
  • First Aid/CPR
