As a result of active participation is a successful pilot program, “The Core Area Informed Response”, this program is being continued.
The Co-ordinated Informed Response Program is a caring and compassionate response that aims to support individuals who are street involved, sleeping rough, and urban camping in finding safe, alternative solutions focused on housing.
As an Informed Response or Street Outreach Worker, you will work in a team of 2, to actively and skillfully engage people experiencing homelessness who are street involved, sleeping rough or urban camping. Working collaboratively with City of London by-law enforcement, parks, roads and security professionals, you will meet people where they are at, provide in-the-moment crisis support, connections to social and healthcare services and linkages to safe, alternative solutions focussed on housing through our Outreach Housing Navigator. Strong documentation and data collection practice helps to inform our program.
This is a role out in the community, meeting people where they are at, and is perfect for someone who is passionate about London becoming a community in which every person thrives.
These positions require flexibility to work on a 24-7 rotational schedule. Our compensation package includes a competitive salary ($21.98 hourly, equal to $40,000 per year), health care benefits and 3 weeks of vacation for FT Contract positions.
Relief positions include 4% vacation pay.
You will be a valuable member of our Informed Response Outreach Team if you have some or all of the following:
- Post-secondary education in social service or related field
- 2-3 years of experience working individuals experiencing homelessness
- Capable of safely de-escalating unpredictable behaviour
- Skillful in-the-moment problem solving with a calm disposition
- Strong knowledge of community resources in London to provide individuals with system navigation
- Understanding of Housing First and Rapid Re-Housing principles
- Experience with youth, Indigenous people, older adults and women
- 2 years of clinical work experience in addictions and mental health
- Understanding of harm reduction theory and experience implementing harm reduction strategies
- Valid G driver’s license
- First Aid/CPR
