Weekend Nutritional Services Team

St. Joseph’s Hospice is a charitable organization that provides quality of life at the end of life, offering compassionate holistic care and support to individuals living with a palliative illness.  Support is extended to their family members and caregivers, and to those grieving the loss of a loved one.  Hospice programs and services are offered at no cost to those we support and are available irrespective of age, gender, religion, race, ethnicity or economic status.

Whether in the community, our wellness centre or our 10-suite residence, St. Joseph’s Hospice provides specialized programs and services with a person-centred approach.  Individuals and families are intimately involved in creating their own plan of care which best addresses their unique needs.  Our competent and committed Hospice staff and volunteers work together as a team with other community partners and service providers to provide full support and quality hospice palliative care.

St. Joseph’s Hospice is currently seeking qualified individuals to create a team of casual employees for a Weekend Nutritional Services Team. This position will work on a rotational basis with a dedicated team of volunteers to support the weekend operation of kitchen activities for the hospice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Food Preparation

Prepare daily resident dinner menu; keep daily record of soups prepared

Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for residents

Prepare soup, baked items, and other snacks for family members and other visitors

Kitchen Management

Inventory supplies and grocery items for food ordering on Monday

Organize cleaning and sanitation schedule and check chemical supplies

Ensure refrigerator temperatures are recorded daily

Maintain a tidy and sanitary kitchen, dining area, and bistro

Orientate new kitchen volunteers

Residents and Families

Visit with families and residents regarding diet, food tolerances, likes and dislikes, and update daily diet sheet with information, and also to provide any special food requests

Assist in the delivery of dietary needs alongside PSWs, nursing staff, kitchen and direct support volunteers

Communicate any resident or caregiver concerns to the Nutritional Services Coordinator or other designated staff as appropriate

Other duties as assigned.


Safe Food Handling Certificate

Must be able to function with minimal supervision

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care education or commitment to obtain within 2 years of start date

Experience working with volunteers is an asset

Demonstrated relationship management skills consistent with the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph’s Hospice

Hours of Work (on a shared rotational basis):

Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
