Part-Time Direct Care Worker - HPR

Through a recent unification process, Anago (Non) Residential Resources Inc. and WAYS Mental Health Support have come together to combine over 100 years of history delivering high-quality services and support for children, youth and adults with specialized needs, and their families/caregivers. Collectively, we are known for providing crisis support; personalized mental health services; supports for community participation and transition to independent living, and safe, therapeutic, educational environments where at-risk children, youth, and vulnerable adults are able to connect, grow and thrive.

Humana Community Services is currently seeking applicants to join our direct support team as a Part-Time Direct Care Worker. Successful applicants will be responsible for providing therapeutic treatment support in a short-term living environment to youth aged 12-18 with persistent mental health diagnoses that significantly impacts all interactions and have exhausted community supports. Involved in these duties is supporting involvement in person-centred and in-depth treatment programs that promote educational, behavioural, developmental, psychological, and emotional growth.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of related post-secondary education (Child and Youth Care, Social Services, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminology or equivalent)
  • Related experience supporting people with complex behavioural needs in short- or long-term living environments
  • Ability to establish therapeutic relationships based on respect and trust
  • Aptitude to lead people through a process of self-evaluation and goal setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of support requirements for youth with mental health diagnoses
  • Proficiency in writing and reporting clear, concise, and objective observations of behaviour
  • Proven use of sound judgement and independent decision-making based on Policies and Procedures
  • Strong advocacy, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, in addition to attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, and independently as necessary
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset

Requirements:

  • Valid Class G (full) Driver’s License & 3-year Uncertified Driver Record
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (specifically prepared for Humana Community Services)
  • Health assessment verifying up-to-date immunizations, including COVID vaccination status (2 doses), and ability to fulfil physical job expectations
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C with AED)
  • Crisis de-escalation and restraint certification (training provided)

Position details:

  • Starting wage: $19.39/hour, plus vacation pay
  • Benefits: 3.5% pay in lieu of benefits following probationary period
  • Location: Parkhill, ON
  • Skills training available to meet mandatory training requirements
  • Shift work is required, including evenings, weekends, overnights and public holidays
