For almost 50 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area has been supporting children and youth (Littles) in our community by providing them with a mentor, or a Big, as we call them. All our programs—whether it’s 1:1 matching or group sessions—have the gold standard of mentorship at their core.

The In-Community 1:1 Mentoring Program provides young people who face adverse childhood experiences with another caring adult in their lives – someone who they can talk to and share their experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings in the community, a relationship is developed between the Big and Little that is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our dedicated case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the Big and Little.

Required Qualifications/Training:
Strong desire to be a role model in a young person’s life
Flexibility with scheduling
Positive, dependable, patient and adaptable
A clear vulnerable sector police check that has been done within the last 6 months
Skills Preferred:
Provide fun and interactive opportunities for you and your Little to participate in on a weekly basis
Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities that focus on your Little’s development
Act as a caring role model for your Little
Report regularly to the staff on the progress of your mentoring relationship
(Where there is interest and a good fit), support newcomer youth with the support they need as they transition to their new home country
