Banting House NHS of Canada is a busy museum receiving visitors from around the world who come to learn the story of Sir Fredrick Banting and the discovery of insulin.  We are currently looking for weekend tour guides who would be required to volunteer a minimum of one Saturday or Sunday a month from 11am to 4pm.  They are reponsible for opening and closing the museum, providing tours and working the gift shop. They will also be expected to help out with special events. Full training is provided.  We may also have a two-hour weekday afternoon shift available which you would do on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  An interest in history or medicine or personal experience with Diabetes would be an asset.  You also need a good command of English as tours take about 45 minutes.Speaking a second language is also an asset as we do try to provide tours in other languages as well.  

Required Qualifications/Training: 
prefer university or college students, or retired individuals with a background in education or medicine or anyone with personal experience with Diabetes
Skills Preferred: 
Advanced language skills, interest in history or medicine or personal experience with Diabetes
Additional Opportunity Information: 
You will be given a tour guide manual and orientation and then will spend several shifts shadowing other volunteers before having to do a tour on your own.
