Position Description

We’re looking for someone with a sharp eye and a sharp pen (or keyboard!) to become our newsletter editor - help promote the importance and value of heritage conservation in the London area!

The ACO London newsletter informs our Members, Partners, Friends, and the general public of news, issues, accomplishments, and events related to our branch and the local heritage scene. The eight-page newsletter is published approximately three times a year, usually in early February (prior to Heritage Week / ACO-HLF Heritage Awards), early May (prior to our annual Geranium Heritage House Tour), and early November (in time for Award and Scholarship nomination period). Join our volunteer corps and help spread the word that Old is the New Green!

Responsibilities
Plan, co-ordinate, and edit content for several newsletters per year
Work with Communications Co-ordinator and Board to determine content and deadlines
Solicit content from members and outside contributors
Gather and choose possible photos/images to compliment content
Research and gather upcoming events listings
Edit for clarity, consistency, grammar, and accuracy using ACO London Newsletter guidelines
Work with layout person on layout and deadlines
Distribute electronic version to Members, Partners, and Friends via MailChimp email service
Co-ordinate with Membership and Recording secretaries for printing of limited stock for non-email members and outreach events, ensure distribution of print copies to archival binder and London Public Library
Attend Board meetings as requested (evenings)

Skills Preferred

Strong English language editing skills and experience
Organized, able to multi-task, and meet deadlines
An eye for detail along with critical thinking
Proficient computer skills, familiarity with MailChimp an asset
Good eye for basic design and layout
Good interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral)
Familiarity with current ‘big picture’ and local heritage issues an asset
Experience in publishing, journalism, PR, and/or communications an asset
Curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for life-long learning!
