For the Love of Laundry
Meet Melissa Power
Melissa started making my own laundry soap in an effort to cut costs for her young family. When she realized that her homemade laundry soap was just as good as anything in stores, she knew it was something she had to share. For the Love of Laundry hosts special laundry events across the city to provide low income families a place to do their laundry for free. Melissa is in the process of expanding this idea to eventually run her own laundromat. With Pillar, Melissa is making connections, building her plan and watching her mission of having every Londoner have clean clothes become a realiy.

Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU)
Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) focuses on young people who are becoming independent adults, but have not had the opportunities, mentorship, education and family supports that are typically synonymous with success. Many youth who go through the YOU training program(s) have never been employed before, have limited understanding of the job market and may not have been encouraged by their families to be employed.
YOU helps youth break cycles of poverty, lack of higher education, homelessness and addiction. The social enterprises allow youth to learn valuable transferable skills and to develop skills, experiences and references. Youth learn customer service, how to function in a working team, follow instructions, meet deadlines and cope with multi-tasked environments. With these skills and experiences, youth gain confidence and develop the drive and ambition necessary for their professional success. The YOU team provides wrap around supports as needed in housing, healthcare, education and employment throughout each young person’s involvement in the agency.
YOU Made It Enterprises, a leader in social enterprise since 1993, enhances the community’s perception of socially disadvantaged youth. The programs help the community to see vulnerable young people as a resource and to see the tremendous impact the training program can have on at-risk youth.
