Becky Ellis

Becky Ellis, Citystudio Program Coordinator

In 2021 I completed my Ph.D. in Geography and Environment at Western University. My Ph.D. dissertation explored the transformative relationship between people and urban bees in London and Toronto.  My M.A. in Anthropology from Western University (2010) examined the role of a community garden in Toronto in fostering neighbourhood democracy. For both research projects I engaged in community-based research in which I spent time with research participants in their gardens and beeyards. For the past 15 years I have engaged in urban agriculture, environmental, and cycling advocacy in the city of London. I served as the chair of the Urban Agriculture Steering Committee for two years and founded the Byron Community Organization and the London Urban Beekeepers Collective. I have previously worked for the London Public Library, city of London, and London Community Resource Centre. I am an enthusiastic gardener and beekeeper and run a small beekeeping/farm operation with my spouse. I also love music and always look forward to attending music festivals!
