Advocacy and Government Relations 2020

Registration is closed for this event

When governments rely on community based inputs to address public policy issues, better public policy is developed. We will explore the board's role in how to be strategic in telling its story and contribute to the development of effective public policy from all levels of government; municipal, provincial, federal and even global.

Join us to learn how a nonprofit can build and customize the storytelling of its issues to resonate with different audiences. This workshop will help organizations build capacity to effectively engage with government and influence and shape public policy.

In this session you will learn:

  • The role of the board of directors in government relations
  • What makes for good strategy in public policy and government relations
  • How to tailor your message depending on who you are interacting with; politicians, bureaucrats and agencies
  • How to reach out to your stakeholders and facilitate their participation in policy discussion
  • How to use storytelling when connecting with government
  • The various opportunities and meetings for connecting with government
