#PolicyTalk: Thriving Workforce, Engaged Communities

“We can’t deeply collaborate, if we don’t start doing things together.”

~Participant, Policy Talk 2023

Policy Talk is a solutions-focused forum where nonprofit leaders, policymakers, advocates, and community members come together to discuss critical policy issues affecting both the nonprofit sector and the broader community. Hosted by Pillar Nonprofit Network, this series is typically held two to four times a year, focusing on sector priorities. It is designed to foster meaningful dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collective action to drive policy changes that promote equity, inclusion, and sustainability.

May 2025 PolicyTalk: Thriving Workforce, Engaged Communities.

At last year’s Big Picture and Bigger Picture events, hosted by Pillar with support from key sector partners, the workforce and volunteer crisis emerged as a shared challenge across the sector. In this edition of Policy Talk: Thriving Workforce, Engaged Communities, three panelists with leadership experience in workforce development, volunteerism, and recruitment—particularly in supporting racialized and equity-deserving groups—will share insights on emerging data and trends in the sector.

The theme of this session recognizes that a thriving workforce and strong volunteerism serve as viable pathways to decent work, economic inclusion, and an engaged community.

This event will provide attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and explore innovative solutions for building a vibrant, thriving workforce and strengthening volunteerism in London to support a healthier community.

Meet our panellists:

Dr. Yvonne Asare-BediakoBlack Community Liaison Advisor, City of London

Susan Hollister, Executive Director, Will Employment Solutions

Christine Wilton, Director of Workforce Development, London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC).

Who should attend:

Policy Talks are for everyone.

We encourage nonprofit leaders, senior leaders, board members, frontline workers, policymakers, advocates, and community members to attend so we can gather across roles, identities and sectors, break out of silos, and pool our collective knowledge and resources and reinforce our commitments to change
