Member Moment: Sustainable Fashion Week Canada

Sustainable Fashion Week Canada is a nonprofit dedicated to transforming our relationship with clothing. Through education, community events, workshops, and collaboration, we make sustainable fashion more accessible while supporting repair, reuse, creativity, and local solutions to fashion waste.

What do you want people to know about how you or your organization is creating change in our community?

Sustainable Fashion Week Canada (SFWC) is working to make sustainable fashion a community practice rather than simply an individual choice. Through workshops, mending events, educational programming, markets, panels, and creative events, we connect people with the knowledge, skills, and local resources they need to rethink how they interact with clothing. Our goal is to make repair, reuse, upcycling, and responsible consumption more accessible while celebrating the creativity already happening in our community.

2026 marks the third annual Sustainable Fashion Week Canada and an exciting milestone for us as our first year operating as a registered nonprofit. This year’s theme, Threads of Resistance, explores how fashion can challenge systems of overconsumption and waste while creating space for more equitable, creative, and sustainable alternatives. We’re proud to be growing a community that believes clothing can have a longer life and that meaningful change can start locally.

What are you working on that you would like to share with the community?

Throughout September 25th to October 4th, SFWC 2026 will bring together community members, makers, educators, businesses, and sustainable fashion advocates through a series of accessible events across the region. Our programming includes hands-on workshops, visible mending and repair opportunities, educational discussions, sustainable markets, and creative fashion events that demonstrate the many ways we can extend the life of our clothing and rethink our relationship with fashion. Rather than focusing solely on what consumers should stop doing, SFWC focuses on giving people practical skills, resources, and alternatives they can take with them beyond the festival!

There are many ways to get involved! Community members can attend our events, participate in workshops, support local vendors and makers, volunteer, or simply share our programming with friends, family, colleagues, and community networks. We would especially love to see our fellow Pillar members at SFWC events and encourage organizations to share our programming with their own communities. We have volunteer opportunities posted on our Pillar profile, as well as our event schedule.

In addition, we are still finalizing our final event schedule, and we still have a few openings for workshop dates. If you have anyone in your network that you think would be a great fit as a workshop host, panel speaker, or vendor, we would love if you reached out!

Please share with us why you are a Pillar Nonprofit Network Member. What have you gained from being a Pillar Member?

As a newly registered nonprofit, becoming a Pillar Nonprofit Network member has given SFWC an opportunity to become part of a much larger community of organizations working to create positive change across London and beyond. We value having a space where nonprofits can connect, learn from one another, share resources, and discover opportunities for collaboration.

Most importantly, Pillar has helped reinforce the idea that community change is rarely created by one organization working alone. Being surrounded by organizations with different experiences, perspectives, and areas of expertise has helped us see new possibilities for collaboration and strengthened our connection to the broader nonprofit sector. We’re excited to continue building those relationships as SFWC grows.
