Each year, the London Chamber of Commerce recognizes outstanding organizations making a difference in our community through the Business Achievement Awards. In 2025, Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area (BBBSOLA) was honoured in the Nonprofit Category. Their recognition not only boosted morale but also opened doors to new partnerships, volunteer interest, and meaningful connections.
We caught up with BBBSOLA to hear, in their own words, what the experience meant to them, how it has shaped their journey since, and the pride their team continues to carry forward.
- How did it feel to be recognized with the Business Achievement Award in the Nonprofit Category?
As an organization, we felt seen, valued and proud. This added to staff and volunteer morale, to be recognized for such a high achievement. To be included as a business through the NFP Business Achievement award is validating to the work we do.
-
What impact, if any, did the award have on your organization’s visibility or public profile?
We received dozens of emails and snail mail letters of recognition and congratulations. This was an opportunity to leverage reach-outs to folks whom we either did not already communicate with or to re-engage in many cases.Additionally, we have deepened our connections with the London Chamber and Pillar NFP, which has further provided more connections and donor prospecting.
- Did receiving the award open up any new opportunities for your organization (e.g., funding, partnerships, volunteer interest)?
We received a higher number of volunteer inquiries than normal for the two-week post awards night. We also received email forwards of potential grant opportunities from folks who had not previously been in communication, however after hearing from us, they sent along contacts and links to help us grow.
- Is there a specific story or moment following the award that stands out to you?
The excitement of the staff team when I shared with all, the day after, was beautiful. The pride this small but mighty team beamed with is both memorable and energy producing for the team.
- Is there anything else you'd like to share about the experience or its impact?
Sincere gratitude for being nominated, considered, and honoured for the work we do, and the way in which we manage that work. There is no mission with margin, and this award reinforced that publicly. Thank you.
