Spreading the Magic: The Grand Theatre

The Grand Theatre recently announced their 2025-2026 season. The Grand Theatre has been a proud Pillar member since 2005, and just last year, came on board as one of Pillar Nonprofit Network’s membership benefit partners. Several times a year, the Grand Theatre offers an exclusive community member discount for select shows to Pillar members. Read on about the Grand’s upcoming season, and how the Grand supports the London community beyond the stage with Rachel Peake, the Grand Theatre’s Artistic Director.

1.  What is the vision behind the Grand Theatre’s upcoming season, and how does it build on the theatre’s legacy?

In the plays this season there is a theme of people trying to go it alone. But at their heart, these joyful plays are about quite the opposite. They are about the discoveries we make when we come together in community— the same way we do when we go to the theatre. The same way we do when we come to the Grand: the place to gather where world class theatre thrives!

2.  Can you share some of the highlights or key productions that audiences can look forward to this season?

Come From Away: This ‘little Canadian play’ needs no introduction. We are so excited to be producing a non-replica version – even if you have seen the show before, we promise to deliver the same heart you have come to love, but inside a new production and new staging by the incomparable Julia Tomaino.

Disney’s Frozen: I directed this production in Edmonton this winter and am so excited to share the magic of discovering what true love can really mean. The Edmonton Journal said some lovely things about it, including, ‘It’s sweet, funny, moving and as impressive as any musical you’ll see on Broadway.'

Primary Trust: This is my favourite play I read this year! And now I am so excited to get to share it with London audiences. Full of magic realism, humour, and heart, Primary Trust lets you walk in the shoes of someone else in a way that unlocks the world in new, funny, and beautiful ways.

3.  How does the Grand Theatre connect with the London community beyond the stage?

We offer youth and educational programs, backstage tours, and special events like Indigenous Community Night and Black Community Night, which include a performance followed by a reception or post-show discussion. We also partner with the London Food Bank for their holiday Business Cares Food Drive and host Holiday Wish for Kids, where 300 children get to experience a special night at the Grand—completely free of charge.

4.  What role does the Grand Theatre play in supporting local artists and fostering the arts in Southwestern Ontario?

The Grand Theatre is dedicated to supporting local artists and fostering the arts in Southwestern Ontario. Beginning in 2024/25 we introduced Artists in the Auburn, a series focused on connecting with established and emerging theatre artists through a Playwrights Lab, hands-on workshops, a Speaker Series, and rental opportunities on the Auburn Stage. We look forward to continuing that program through 2025/26. We also provide rental space for local theatre groups to showcase their work year-round. Guided by our commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Reconciliation (EDI-R), we strive to create an inclusive and welcoming space where diverse voices and perspectives are celebrated.

5.  Why should someone who’s never been to the Grand Theatre make this the season to attend?

This season at the Grand Theatre offers something for everyone—comedy, drama, musicals, and productions for all ages. While each story is unique, they all share a common thread: the power of coming together, a theme that feels more important than ever. Whether you're looking for a night of laughter, a moving drama, or a show the whole family can enjoy, the Grand is a place where everyone is welcome. If you've never been before, there's no better time to experience the magic of live theatre.
