Willy Van Klooster Nonprofit Governance Scholarship Awarded to the London Youth Advisory Council

Pillar is pleased to congratulate this year’s recipient of the Willy Van Klooster Nonprofit Governance Scholarship, the London Youth Advisory Council!

This Scholarship was established in 2008 to honour Willy Van Klooster, the founding board chair of Pillar Nonprofit Network in recognition of his exemplary leadership. Valued at $5000, this scholarship strives to help a member organization build excellence in board governance, and is particularly valuable to organizations with a new incoming Board Chair and/or Executive Director.

“In our experience, the WVK scholarship is best served with small organizations that have great programming, an enthusiastic staff, supportive and forward-thinking board, but feel adrift in their organizational plans” say Pam Hassen (Executive Director) and Katie Wilhelm (Board President) of LondonFuse New Media Collective, last year’s award recipient.

Janet Frood of Horizon Leadership, Kate Graham, Past Chair of Pillar's Board of Directors, and Dharshi Lacey, Director of Diversity & Governance at Pillar will support this year’s recipient. Over the next 7 months, the team will meet with the Executive Director and Board Chair to assess the board's needs and provide best practices, coaching and support to strengthen the work of LYAC's board.

The call for applications to the Willy Van Klooster Nonprofit Governance Scholarship is announced at Pillar’s Annual General Meeting each April. The recipient organization is selected by August of each year so that the work can begin in the fall and be completed by March 31 of the following year.

Congratulations to the London Youth Advisory Council and we look forward to working with your board.
