Organization Description

Palace Theatre Arts Commons (PTAC) is a registered charity and non-profit organization which operates the Palace Theatre at 710 Dundas Street and is governed by a 13-member Board of Directors. PTAC has ~150 Members and supported by over 250 volunteers each year. Our Board provides the oversight and community leadership that help ensure the Palace remains a vibrant and sustainable home for theatre and the arts.

The Board supports our umbrella organizations including:

  • London Community Players (LCP), our founding organization who produces 6 mainstage productions each year.

  • London Youth Theatre Education (LYTE), our youth organization who produces approx. 10-12 productions each year for youth ages 8-18.

  • London Fringe Festival (Fringe), an international one-week festival featuring artists within and outside of London.

  • Theatres in Residence, currently consisting of one company: Banished by the King.

Board Recruitment

We are seeking individuals who have backgrounds in strategy development, accounting/financial, non-profit, business, or fundraising.

To ensure the Board composition has the best possible decision-making environment, preference will be given to candidates that broaden the diversity of the Board, ensures representation is reflective of our community, and enables the PTAC to retain the competencies of vacating Board Members.

Board of Directors Participation

Directors are elected for 2-year terms and can serve consecutive terms with the approval of the Membership.

Currently, Directors are actively involved in the management of PTAC. Involvement varies depending on the committees Directors are assigned to or special interest areas. Our goal is to get the organization to a financially stable position in the next 5 years, enabling us to hire staff.

Board meetings are held twice per month. Directors must join at least one committee, meeting as scheduled per committee, approx. once per month. Currently our committees are as follows, with a * indicating vacancies or more support needed:

  • Executive (consists of: Board Chair*, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary)

  • Facilities

  • Finance*

  • Fundraising*

  • Fringe

  • Governance*

  • LCP Production Committee

  • LYTE (London Youth Theatre Education)

  • Marketing

  • Membership and Volunteer*

  • Rentals

  • Theatres in Residence

Additionally, Directors are expected to attend productions from our umbrella organizations, and occasionally volunteer in Front of House roles (Usher, concessions, etc), however these are not hard requirements.

Who should apply?

There is no single background or set of experiences required to contribute to the PTAC Board.

We welcome applications from people who are excited about supporting theatre and the arts in our community and who are willing to contribute constructively to the governance and work of the Board. Previous Board experience is not required but is an asset.

PTAC values the strength that comes from different experiences, identities, backgrounds, abilities, and perspectives. We encourage applications from people from communities that have historically been underrepresented in arts and non-profit leadership.

We are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive application and participation process. Applicants who require disability-related accommodations or other accessibility supports are encouraged to let us know how we can support their participation.
