For over 50 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area has been supporting children and youth who face adverse childhood experiences by providing them with a mentor. All our programs—whether it’s 1:1 matching or group sessions—have the gold standard of mentorship at their core.

We offer the following three In-School Group Mentoring Programs for volunteers 18-30 years old, 1 hour for 14 weeks:

Go Girls! is a program for girls ages 12-14 that focuses on physical activity, balanced eating and self-esteem. The single, most important goal of the program is to positively shape the lives of young women and girls by helping them build a positive self-image – setting them on a path to reach their full potential in life.

Game On! is a program for boys ages 12-14 that provides them with information and support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Participants engage in non-traditional physical activities (always with a healthy snack), life skills and positive discussions that encourage them to achieve their full potential.

Healthy Heroes is a program for a group of youth in grades 4–5. Sessions focus on healthy living through active play, balanced nutrition, and building positive self-esteem.

Required Qualifications/Training:
General knowledge of physical activity, positive nutrition, positive self-esteem and building relationship skills
General knowledge of community resources
Willingness to try new things
A clear vulnerable sector police check that has been done within the last 6 months
Skills Preferred:
Provide an opportunity for girls and boys to participate in fun, interactive activities and discussions once a week for fourteen weeks
Learn the program curriculum and deliver it with confidence
Supervise a group of 6-8 teens and respond knowledgably to their needs
Report regularly to the staff on the progress of the program
