The Learning Disabilities Association of London Region (LDALR) is currently recruiting University and/or College students 18 to 30 years of age for tutor/mentor positions. These are the programs we are running which includes a description of the role you could play.
Reading Programs
Program: Literacy Launchpad > Thursdays, Sep 24-Dec 3, 5:15-6:15 pm
For students grade 3 to 5. This program is 60-minute sessions per week over 10-weeks.
Program Delivery: IN-PERSON at our LDA Centre at 303 Richmond Street, London, ON
This program is designed to help young readers build confidence and success in reading. Grounded in the Science of Reading, this engaging one-hour program combines fun, interactive learning with proven instructional methods to strengthen phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and writing skills.
Your Role:Tutors will help to guide a small group instruction and provide 1:1 support that tailors each students unique learning needs.
Program: Literacy Momentum >Thursdays, Sep 24-Dec 3, 6:30-8:00 pm
For students grades 6 to 9. This program is 90-minute sessions per week over 10-weeks.
Program Delivery: IN-PERSON at our LDA Centre at 303 Richmond Street, London, ON
This program is a dynamic literacy program designed to help students strengthen their reading, writing and learning skills while building confidence and independence. Grounded in the Science of Reading, this engaging program combines explicit instruction with meaningful practice in vocabulary development, reading fluency, comprehension, written expression and critical thinking.
Your Role: Tutors will help to guide a small group supportive environment that encourages collaboration, discussion and peer connection while also providing students with 1:1 support that tailors each students unique learning needs.
Writing Programs
Program: Write Forward Foundations > Wednesdays, Sep 23-Dec 2, 5:15-6:15 pm
For students grades 4 to 7. This program is 60-minute sessions/week over 10-weeks.
Program Delivery: IN-PERSON at our LDA Centre at 303 Richmond Street, London, ON
This program is designed to help students who may struggle with expressive writing. This program starts with learning how to write a sentence and building from there, using strategies such as mind mapping, to eventually write a paragraph.
Your Role: Tutors will help guide small group instruction and 1:1 support that tailors each students unique learning needs. Tutors will use a step-by-step approach, helping their students each week in building their students confidence and writing abilities.
Program: Write Forward for Writing Success > Wednesdays, Sep 23-Dec 2, 6:30-8:00 pm
For students grades 8 to 12. This program is 90-minute sessions/week over 10-weeks.
Program Delivery: IN-PERSON at our LDA Centre at 303 Richmond Street, London, ON
This program focuses on the skills necessary for students grades 8 to 12 to write effectively. These practices help ensure that all students, including those with learning disabilities, can develop the strategic knowledge and confidence to write for different purposes and audiences.
Your Role: Tutors will help guide small group instruction and 1:1 support that tailors each students unique learning needs. Tutors will use a step-by-step approach, helping their students each week in building their students confidence and writing abilities.
Executive Functioning Program
Program: Brain Boost > Mondays, Sep 21-Nov 16, 6:30-8:00 pm
For students grades 7 to 9. This program is 90-minute sessions/week over 8-weeks.
Program Delivery: IN-PERSON at our LDA Centre at 303 Richmond Street, London, ON
This program is an engaging small-group program that helps students build the executive functioning skills they need to gain stronger executive functioning skills, increased confidence, improved independence and practical strategies they can use throughout high school and beyond.
Your Role: Tutors will lead small-group and individualized coaching check-ins to their students to help them with accountability and support. Provide practical strategies to support executive functioning at home, create consistent routines, encourage independence and foster resilience and growth mindset.
Academic Help
Program: Academic Tutoring > Many Day/Time Options available to choose from on the Volunteer Application form.
For students grade 3 to 12. This program is 90-minute sessions per week over 10-weeks.
Program Delivery Options: 100% IN-PERSON or ONLINE Virtual Synchronous Learning
Your Role: Tutors will help their student to bridge immediate classroom needs and long-term success. You will help your student complete homework and develop skills for future challenges.
- Assistance with current subjects, upcoming assignments, and test preparation.
- Embedding essential habits like time management, active reading, and structured problem-solving.
- Tutoring in study skills, note-taking, and organization.
- Providing structured, real-time strategies during sessions to build confidence through reinforcement and practice.
- Focusing on improvement in report card grades and core subject competencies.
