Eligibility Requirements (Canada Summer Jobs Program):
- To be eligible, youth must:
- - Be between 15 and 29 years of age at the start of employment.
- - Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- - Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Note: International students are not eligible for this position.
Wage: $18.85/hour
Schedule: Primarily Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend hours for meetings or events. Hybrid or remote work options may be available depending on project needs. Some in-person work will be required, including attendance at meetings and events in Middlesex County and the City of London. Access to reliable transportation is an asset.
About Middlesex London Food Policy Council (MLFPC): The MLFPC is a community organization composed of volunteer members representing various sectors of the food system, including production, distribution, government, and education. Position Summary: The Food System Assistant will support the operational, communications, research, and coordination activities of the Middlesex-London Food Policy Council. This position offers hands-on experience in food systems work, community engagement, and food policy. The successful candidate will assist with a range of projects that advance a food-secure Middlesex-London. This may include mapping and data collection, communications, and research to inform food policy and planning.
Key Responsibilities May Include:

Support a local food mapping initiative, including researching and compiling data and creating a map of regional food assets (e.g., farms, markets, food programs).

Support the Food Champions campaign, including promotion, coordination, and profile development.

Develop communications materials (e.g., briefs, social media content, newsletter copy) to share and connect local food system initiatives and issues.

Contribute to the planning, coordination, and evaluation of community engagement events that bring together food system partners.

Assist with coordination of food system activities, including partner outreach, meeting preparation, note-taking, and follow-up.

Conduct research and support policy analysis related to food systems priorities, including farmland protection, food access, and climate resilience.

Assist with public awareness and advocacy initiatives that strengthen food security and equitable access to food.

Support collaboration and relationship-building across municipalities, community organizations, producers, and institutions to advance shared regional priorities.
Education Background:

Currently enrolled in or completion of a post-secondary program (agriculture, food systems, environmental science, geography, public policy, food and nutrition, communications or related fields).
Skills & Qualifications:

Strong writing, editing, and communication skills

Strong research and data management skills, including collection, analysis, and reporting

Attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently and collaboratively
