London Cares is a dynamic and impactful organization dedicated to building a bridge from street to home for people experiencing homelessness, particularly persons with the most complex needs and greatest barriers. London Cares supports individuals experiencing homelessness through street outreach, housing selection, and housing stability services, including supports for veterans experiencing homelessness.

We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic guidance to our organization, ensuring effective governance, and advancing our mission.


This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact in the lives of people experiencing homelessness and contribute to meaningful social change.

We are especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Fundraising and community partnerships
  2. Housing and social services


We are committed to building a Board that reflects the diverse communities we serve. We strongly encourage individuals from a variety of backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences to apply. Your unique perspective can help strengthen our mission and deepen our impact in the community.


Time Commitment:
The Board meets once per month, with members completing additional work between meetings. The average monthly time commitment is approximately 5–10 hours, depending on involvement in ad hoc projects, committee work, and annual retreats.

Director Responsibilities:

Strategy and Structure:
- Providing strategic leadership, support and direction to the Executive Director through generative conversations.
- Support the development of strategies and plans that will underpin the organization’s overall strategic focus.

 

Performance and Management:
- Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of policies, strategies, and tactical plans.
- Determining monitoring criteria to be used by the Board.
- Ensuring that internal controls are effective (risk management, financial and operational control, and compliance).
- Employing and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director.


Fundraising, Development and Resources:
- Ensuring the organization’s financial viability and sustainability.
- Ensuring that resources are effectively managed.
- Assist in securing financial resources and building relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners.

Communications and Advocacy:
- Being knowledgeable about London Cares’ values, mission, activities, and performance.
-  Being an ambassador for the organization and promoting its work in the community.
- Ensuring that communications both to and from relevant stakeholders are effective, including communication with the Executive Director.
- Advocate for the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.

Governance and Leadership:
- Provide oversight to ensure the organization meets its mission and goals.

Financial Oversight:
- Oversee the financial health of the organization and provide valuable insights to guide our financial decision-making processes.
