About Us

Single Women In Motherhood (SWIM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and supporting single mothers through education, resources, and community programs. Our Little Fish Program provides supervised short-term childcare so mothers can attend appointments, interviews, or self-development activities—knowing their children are in a safe and nurturing space.

About the Role

We are seeking a caring and dependable Early Childhood Assistant to help deliver quality childcare in our drop-in program. You’ll work closely with a small, passionate team to support children between the ages of 0–12 years in a creative, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment.

Schedule:

  • Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
  • Hours: 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM (children may stay up to 3 hours)
  • Location: On-site at 4-296 Horton Street East, London, ON

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage children in storytelling, music, play, crafts, and other developmental activities
  • Support children with hygiene, eating, and rest routines
  • Monitor child safety and report any concerns to the supervisor
  • Keep the childcare space clean, organized, and welcoming
  • Assist with snack prep and tidying
  • Maintain daily attendance records and logs
  • Communicate respectfully with parents/guardians and team members

What You Bring

  • Completion of high school (required)
  • Experience working with children in a childcare or early learning setting
  • Current First Aid & CPR-C certification (required)
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required)
  • Positive, patient, and nurturing attitude
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Bonus: ECE Assistant Certificate or coursework (preferred but not required)
  • Bonus: Experience working with single-parent families or trauma-informed care

Why Join SWIM?

  • Make a real impact in the lives of women and children
  • Be part of a supportive, women-led nonprofit organization
  • Low-ratio, short-duration childcare = less burnout
  • Great for ECE students or those re-entering the workforce
  • Opportunity for growth into supervisory or program assistant roles

Application Deadline: Open until filled.

We encourage applications from individuals who reflect the diversity of our community, including single mothers, newcomers, and racialized individuals.

Job Type: Part-time

Benefits:

  • On-site parking

Work Location: In person

Required Qualifications/Training:
Post Graduate Diploma in Childcare.

networking events or a job in the nonprofit sector, we can help.
