Incorporating a Nonprofit - Working Session

Are you ready to take your nonprofit’s vision to the next level? Incorporation is crucial to establishing a solid legal foundation, but the process can be daunting and expensive. This session, led by Benjamin Miller, Staff Lawyer and Policy Advisor with Nonprofit Law Ontario, is designed to guide you through every step of legal incorporation, providing tailored, cost-effective solutions and hands-on support.

Important Session Details

Full-Day Working Session (6.5 hours):
This is a hands-on session where you’ll actively complete applications and forms using your organization's information.

Preparation:
Before the workshop, we’ll reach out with a list of the specific organizational details you’ll need to have on hand to make the most of your time.

Registration:
The registration fee covers your organization. It includes two in-person seats, with additional team members welcome to join via Zoom.

Meals:
Lunch is not included. However, the Sidetrack Café will be open onsite, offering lunch, coffee, and snacks for purchase.

Staff Lawyer and Policy Advisor at the Ontario Nonprofit Network, Benjamin Miller brings extensive expertise and a dynamic facilitation style to this session, making complex legal processes accessible and engaging.

What You’ll Learn and Do:

By the end of this session, participants will have:

  1. Selected the right jurisdiction: Understand the differences between incorporating federally and provincially.

  2. Completed articles of incorporation: Draft essential governing documents with structured guidance.

  3. Prepared for initial meetings: Gain clarity on holding your first board and members’ meetings.

  4. Created bylaws: Develop a customized set of bylaws tailored to your nonprofit’s needs.

For each section of the articles of incorporation, participants will have structured time to create their own documents using online tools and will have an opportunity to ask questions, hear from one another, and create the governing documents they need to set themselves up for success.
