Safer Spaces for the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community

What is a safe space?

A "Safe Space" is a place or environment in which a person can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, or harassment, or any other type of emotional or physical harm.

Due to the nature of public spaces and ongoing learning, no one can really guarantee that their organization will always be a "safe place". The goal of creating "Safer Spaces" is to educate organizations and individuals on how to create conditions that lessen the risk of harm.  Creating Safer Spaces is about creating an environment where people can find themselves represented and reflected and where they understand that the organization is committed to treating all people with respect and dignity.

Individuals and organizations that complete this workshop are demonstrating their commitment to offering spaces that:

  • Understand the challenges and stigma faced by the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their families
  • Have individuals/staff trained to better address the issues and needs of the 2SLGBTQIA+ population
  • Are more positive and safer for everyone

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

As a facilitator, Nikita leads from a place of humility and humanity. She understands that we all come together from different starting places, experiences, and understandings. She is dedicated to creating an atmosphere free from judgement so that participants can absorb the content, ask questions, and explore their own learning and growth.

There is often time at the end of this presentation to further reflect, share, and consolidate what has been learned. Participants can use this time to explore challenges in their particular industry or organization and create action items to implement the learning further.
