For over 40 years, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada (BTFC) has been dedicated to supporting, educating, and empowering everyone affected by a brain tumour while funding research and advocating for better outcomes. The Role:
The Director of External Relations plays a pivotal role in advancing Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s mission through strategic leadership in fundraising, marketing, and communications. This position drives donor engagement, revenue growth, and national visibility, ensuring the Foundation’s message of hope and impact reaches communities across the country.
In this role, you will lead a talented team overseeing fund development, marketing & communications, and prospect research. You’ll shape and implement integrated strategies that inspire giving, build meaningful relationships, and amplify the stories of those affected by a brain tumour. As a member of the senior leadership team, you’ll collaborate closely with the CEO and peers to align external relations with the organization’s strategic priorities and long-term vision.
We’re seeking an inspiring, strategic leader with deep experience in fundraising and communications, a passion for relationship-building, and a talent for uniting teams around shared goals. Key Responsibilities:

Lead an integrated strategy for fundraising, marketing, and communications to advance the Foundation’s mission and strategic goals.

Drive revenue growth through innovative fundraising programs, donor engagement, and strategic partnerships.

Oversee the development of compelling campaigns and storytelling that inspire giving and elevate national visibility.

Strengthen the Foundation’s brand and digital presence across web, social, media, and print platforms.

Build and nurture relationships with donors, partners, and community stakeholders to expand reach and impact.

Provide leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and excellence.

Ensure consistent, accessible, and mission-aligned communication across all channels and audiences.

Use data and analytics to evaluate performance, guide decision-making, and enhance engagement strategies.

Champion a culture of philanthropy, innovation, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Political Science, or a related field.

Preferred: CFRE or equivalent (e.g. Diploma in Public Relations & Communications).

7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, marketing, or communications, ideally within the nonprofit or healthcare sector.

Proven success developing and executing integrated fundraising and communications strategies that drive growth and engagement.

Strong understanding of donor relations, prospect development, and data-driven decision-making.

Exceptional storytelling, writing, and presentation skills with the ability to inspire diverse audiences.

Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring high-performing teams.

Proficiency with CRM and digital marketing tools (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, email marketing, analytics).

Strategic thinker with creativity, adaptability, and a results-focused mindset.

Vulnerable Sector Police Check required.
