Compensation: $21.05 per hour, 4% vacation pay, and 2 granted leave days during contract
Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements in accordance with the Canada Summer Jobs funding program:

Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.

Position Summary:
The Environmental Program Coordinator will support the London Environmental Network’s (LEN) Thriving Communities program, which increases access to urban green spaces by implementing green infrastructure projects with a variety of community partners. In summer 2026, this will include supporting the residential rain garden program, planting an edible garden, and an outdoor pollinator and learning garden. The Environmental Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating planting events, recruiting volunteers, engaging with community partners, and creating and disseminating educational information about the environmental and social benefits of green infrastructure projects in the community. The Environmental Program Coordinator will report to the Executive Director.
The Organization:
The London Environmental Network (LEN) is a registered environmental charity that aims to make London, Ontario, one of the greenest and most resilient cities in Canada. The LEN works to connect and engage with individuals, nonprofits, and businesses in London and the surrounding area to reduce their environmental impacts through various programs and services. In addition, the LEN provides capacity-building and promotional support to its network of over 40 environmental non-profit and grassroots community groups, helping to raise the profile of the environmental sector.
Thriving Communities is a program of the LEN that creates equitable green infrastructure projects across the city. Green infrastructure works with nature to transform underused spaces into thriving ecosystems. By using nature-based solutions, it expands green spaces, supports biodiversity, manages stormwater, and sequesters carbon. It can include replacing unused asphalt with native plantings, creating pollinator gardens, planting edible landscapes, establishing mini-forests, and building rain gardens.
Preferable Skills & Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates who have the following experience, traits, and abilities:

Completed or in-progress studies related to environmental science, horticulture, ecology, geography, urban planning and design, or a similar field

Previous work or volunteer experience in nonprofits, community engagement, sales, or customer service

Ability to engage community members and volunteers in workshops, events, and project implementation
-
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple project timelines, while working independently and collaboratively to meet project goals
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly related to explaining green infrastructure and environmental concepts to a beginner audience

Previous experience using social media platforms and graphic design tools, such as Canva
-
Experience with collecting, organizing, and summarizing qualitative and quantitative data to share project outcomes
-
Experience with outdoor landscape tasks, including shovelling, planting, mulching and other similar tasks, is an asset
-
Possession of a valid Ontario G Class driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle are assets
Key Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Thriving Communities Project Support (85%)

Assist with coordinating the Residential Rain Garden Program, including delivering an educational workshop, providing site design and implementation support for program participants, tracking and reporting program deliverables, and ensuring all participants successfully install rain gardens by the deadline. Tasks may include coordinating event logistics, conducting research, and physical gardening task

Assist with the installation of the edible garden for a community partner organization. Tasks will include gardening tasks, liaising with the community partner before, during, and after planting, and documenting project outcomes

Coordinate an outdoor pollinator and learning garden for installation in mid-late summer. Tasks will include communicating with the site hosts, site preparation and design, managing a project budget, ordering supplies, recruiting and training volunteers, tracking and reporting project outcomes, and creating a site maintenance plan

Create educational resources (pamphlets, guides, etc.) to raise awareness about green infrastructure benefits and initiatives people can replicate in their communities

Create social media content and promotional materials, such as case studies, showcasing Thriving Communities’ impacts and ways people can support the program
-
Research potential green infrastructure projects and funding opportunities for the Thriving Communities program
-
Maintain project budgets, ensure project deliverables are completed, and assist with submitting final reports to program supporters
Other Duties (15%):

Maintaining a log of activities and hours completed

Reporting project progress to the Supervisor regularly

Participating in bi-weekly team meetings and organization-wide activities

Performing other similar and related activities as required
