Who Are We?
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority’s (UTRCA) mission statement is Inspiring a Healthy Environment. The 17 municipalities within the Upper Thames River watershed appoint representatives to the UTRCA’s Board of Directors who represent the local urban and rural communities, deciding policies and programs that will lead to a healthy watershed. Our programs and services focus on five key areas:
- Protecting people and property and supporting safe development
- Delivering landowner stewardship
- Providing natural spaces and recreational opportunities
- Making science based decisions
- Empowering communities and youth
The Upper Thames River watershed encompasses an area of 3,421 square kilometers, and is mainly rural but includes the urban centres of London, Stratford, and Woodstock. The UTRCA serves a total population of approximately 539,500 residents.
UTRCA Conservation Areas provide outdoor recreational opportunities that aim to educate and promote conservation messages to a large audience in an effort to improve the watershed’s natural environment

Summary
The duties of this position will primarily entail surveying of natural and man-made features of water courses throughout the watershed, utilizing a high accuracy GPS survey unit, in support of updating and modernizing watershed hydraulic computer models (HEC-RAS). The Field Surveyor is also responsible to provide support to other functions within the Water and Information Management Unit and the Authority.
What You Will Do
- Survey natural and man-made features of water courses throughout the watershed;
- Utilize a high accuracy GPS survey unit to undertake survey;
- Document all work with succinct field notes and photography, assist with entry into existing databases;

What You Will Bring
- University or college degree/diploma in engineering, science, or a related environmental program;
- A high level of physical fitness and tolerance for unpredictable weather conditions and working outside for majority of the day;
- Comfort and experience around water and boats, preferred to have related experience/qualifications such as swimming ability and ORCKA training;
- Experience in collecting field data preferred;
- Ability to use basic computer applications related to responsibilities;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Valid Ontario drivers license;
- Valid First Aid Certificate (or able to obtain by start date)
