About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Supports, the Manager plays a key leadership role in ensuring that support services are inclusive, individualized, and person-directed. This is not just about oversight — it’s about championing the voices of people supported, ensuring their goals are at the center of every plan, and building a culture where dignity, choice, and independence are valued.
The Manager guides and mentors a team of Coordinators and Direct Support Professionals, while fostering collaborative relationships with families, colleagues, and community partners. You will be both a leader and a learner, helping shape an environment where staff feel supported, families feel included, and people supported feel empowered to live the lives they choose.
Key Responsibilities
As a Manager of Supports, you will:
- Lead and Inspire: Provide supervision, mentorship, and direction to Coordinators and Direct Support Professionals, modeling professionalism, respect, and integrity in all actions.
- Champion Person-Centered Supports: Ensure planning is directed by the individual’s goals, dreams, and choices, and promote meaningful opportunities for community inclusion, relationship-building, and personal growth.
- Foster Quality and Safety: Oversee daily operations to ensure services meet quality standards, uphold safety and well-being, and comply with legislative and regulatory requirements, including the Quality Assurance Measures (QAM).
- Promote Communication and Collaboration: Build open, respectful dialogue with people supported, families, and staff, ensuring information is shared clearly and decisions are made together.
- Support and Empower Staff: Encourage staff development through coaching, recognition, and constructive feedback, while cultivating a supportive and inclusive workplace.
- Problem Solve with Sensitivity and Judgement: Approach challenges with a solutions-focused mindset that respects the perspectives of people supported and staff.
- Manage Resources Responsibly: Oversee individualized funding (including Passport), review budgets, and ensure resources are used effectively to support each person’s goals.
- Be There When It Counts: Respond to emergencies or urgent situations with calm leadership and ensure accountability in all reporting and follow-up.
What We’re Looking For
- Education & Experience: A degree or diploma in Human Services (or a related field) plus at least 5 years of experience in support services and 3 years in leadership or the equivalent
- Behaviour Support Expertise: Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)that are person-centered, positive and aligned with the Association’s values, and the rights-based practices under QAM. The ideal candidate will be skilled in coaching and supporting teams to apply proactive strategies and utilize effective communication approaches when supporting people with complex needs.
- Commitment to Inclusion: A deep understanding of person-directed planning, community-based supports, and the rights of people with developmental disabilities.
- Strong Leadership: Demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate staff, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive team culture.
- Excellent Communication: Skilled in verbal and written communication, including public speaking and negotiation, with an ability to build trust and partnership.
- Organizational Skills: Able to balance priorities, respond to changing needs, and ensure accountability across programs.
- Knowledge of the Sector: Familiarity with developmental services, non-profit operations, and relevant legislation.
Requirements
- Vulnerable Sector Check specific to Alice Saddy Association
- Flexibility, with some evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
- Standard First Aid & CPR + AED, and CPI certification
- Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and insurance and an MVR in good standing
- Covid-19 vaccination (per Association policy)
