Position Description:
This summer, the Middlesex London Food Policy Council (MLFPC) is seeking two Marketing & Communications Assistants to help advance several key initiatives. The successful candidates will support the development of a communications strategy, assist with the creation, review, and posting of content, and help organize a local food system event. We welcome applicants with a passion for local food issues, agriculture, or food security.
Responsibilities:

Support Communications: Help develop and implement MLFPC’s communications strategy, including branding, newsletters, website updates, and social media.

Provide Administrative and Operational Support: Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks and organizational systems to keep MLFPC’s activities running smoothly.

Develop Educational and Orientation Materials: Create and organize onboarding and educational resources for new volunteers, Council members, and partners.

Assist with Community Engagement and Events: Support event planning, logistics, and working group activities, including materials preparation and coordination.

Collaborate with the Team: Join weekly check-ins to review progress, set priorities, and share feedback; participate occasionally in in-person meetings or community partner visits.
Schedule:
Primarily Monday to Friday daytime hours, with flexibility. Some evening and weekend availability may be required for meetings and events.
Skills Required:

Ability to create marketing plans, strategies, and calendars.

Experience creating consistent, on-brand social media content using Canva.

Work well as part of a team.

Communicate their progress clearly and openly.

Are receptive to feedback and eager to learn.
Education/Experience:

Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in marketing, communications, public relations, social studies, social work, education, health studies, public health, nutrition, agriculture, or a related field.
Preferred Skills (Not Required):

Photography/videography.

Managing social media pages.

Planning community events.

French or other language skills.

Access to reliable transportation.

Experience working with rural communities or in agriculture.

Community outreach or curriculum/resource design.
Eligibility Requirements (Canada Summer Jobs Program):

Aged 15-30 at the start of employment.

Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Valid Social Insurance Number and legally entitled to work in Canada.

Priority given to underrepresented groups (Black/racialized youth, Indigenous youth, youth with disabilities).
