Over the past several municipal elections, Pillar Nonprofit Network has asked candidates running for municipal office to answer questions around issues that we felt were important in the community. This year, the questions we asked were around inclusion and equity because it has been identified as a key issue and area of focus in our community and as part of Pillar’s strategic plan.
Our Pillar staff hit the road attending three provincial and national conferences in one hectic week in Toronto! At the Ontario Nonprofit Network, the Ontario Social Enterprise Roundtable and the Social Finance Forum, we shared our successes and challenges, learning from the many incredible voices in the room.
On August 1st, London’s Community Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2017 was released.
On December 5th 2016, I attended a workshop titled Exploring Power and Privilege, facilitated by Mojdeh Cox of the Canadian Labour Congress in partnership with Pillar Nonprofit Network and Family Service Thames Valley. It was intended to be a follow-up to the Community Forum on Racism held on September 7th 2016. The target audience and primary attendees of the workshop were executive directors, board members, and senior managers in the nonprofit sector.
TORONTO, November 8, 2016 – Ryerson University is pleased to announce a $500,000 gift from TD to expand the reach and programming of DiverseCity onBoard, an internationally-recognized program of governance training and board-matching to strengthen diversity on the boards of Canadian not-for-profit and public sector organizations. When getting settled in the South West area, alongside getting personal identification, certificates and licences, there are non-profit and government services that help with basic needs, the citizenship process, and cultural transitions.
This resource has been designed to assist organizations in the identification and removal of barriers to participation and to share practical strategies for engaging individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds as volunteers.
