Sustainable Fashion Week Canada (SFWC) is seeking passionate and skilled volunteer board members to help guide the future of Sustainable Fashion Week Canada. We welcome applicants from across Canada with experience in finance, governance, fundraising, communications, sustainable fashion, community engagement, and partnerships. Together, we are building a national movement that celebrates circular fashion, ethical production, community knowledge, and climate action.

Commitment

  • 4–6 board meetings annually
  • Committee participation as needed
  • Approximately 3–5 hours per month

Board Director, Finance & Treasury

Role Summary - The Treasurer provides financial oversight and helps ensure the organization remains financially sustainable and accountable.

Responsibilities

  • Review financial statements and budgets
  • Support annual budgeting and financial planning
  • Monitor organizational finances and cash flow
  • Assist with financial policies and controls
  • Present financial updates at board meetings
  • Support grant and funding reporting requirements

Ideal Qualifications

  • Accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or business experience
  • Experience with nonprofit finances is an asset
  • Comfortable reviewing financial reports
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Board Director, Fund Development & Grant Writing

    Role Summary - The Fund Development Director helps secure resources that support SFWC's growth and impact.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify grant and funding opportunities
    • Support grant applications and reporting
    • Assist with fundraising strategy
    • Help develop sponsorship and donor relationships
    • Connect the organization to funding networks

    Ideal Qualifications

    • Grant writing experience
    • Fundraising, nonprofit development, or sponsorship experience
    • Strong written communication skills
    • Passion for sustainability and community impact

Board Director, Governance & Policy

Role Summary - The Governance Director helps ensure strong board practices, accountability, and organizational compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Review and update bylaws and governance policies
  • Support board recruitment and orientation
  • Ensure governance best practices are followed
  • Assist with risk management and compliance matters
  • Advise on organizational structure and decision-making processes

Ideal Qualifications

  • Nonprofit governance experience
  • Legal, policy, HR, or governance background
  • Previous board service preferred

Board Director, Marketing & Communications

  • Role Summary - The Marketing and Communications Director helps strengthen SFWC's public profile and community engagement.

    Responsibilities

    • Advise on marketing strategy
    • Support media and public relations efforts
    • Assist with storytelling and brand development
    • Help expand audience reach nationally
    • Connect SFWC with communications opportunities

    Ideal Qualifications

    • Marketing, communications, PR, journalism, or digital media experience
    • Strong understanding of audience engagement
    • Passion for sustainability and social impact

Board Director, Community Engagement, Equity & Accessibility

Role Summary - This Director helps ensure SFWC remains inclusive, accessible, and community-driven.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on accessibility and inclusion practices
  • Support community outreach and engagement
  • Build relationships with diverse communities and organizations
  • Help ensure programs reflect community needs
  • Promote equitable participation across SFWC initiatives

Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience in community development, education, accessibility, equity, or grassroots organizing
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Passion for community-led change

Board Director, Partnerships & Sponsorships

Role Summary - The Partnerships Director helps build strategic relationships that support the sustainability and growth of SFWC.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and cultivate sponsorship opportunities
  • Build relationships with businesses and institutions
  • Support partnership agreements and collaborations
  • Introduce potential sponsors, supporters, and strategic allies
  • Help diversify organizational revenue

Ideal Qualifications

  • Business development, sales, partnership, or sponsorship experience
  • Strong professional network
  • Excellent relationship-building skills

Skills Preferred: 
Experience in community development, education, accessibility, equity, or grassroots organizing
