The Museum of Ontario Archaeology (MOA) is recruiting qualified candidates for four Board of Directors positions, including two key leadership roles.
About the Museum
The MOA is a registered Canadian charity and incorporated Ontario non-profit based in London, ON. We connect people to the cultural and natural history of the province through an archaeological lens, providing specialized services in collections care, education, and public programming. The museum is located beside the Lawson Site - a Canadian Historic Place and the first archaeological site protected under the Ontario Heritage Act.
Open Positions
Board Chair (Priority Position)
We require an experienced leader to guide board governance and strategic direction. The ideal candidate brings:
- Proven board leadership experience, preferably as a chair or vice-chair
- Strong facilitation and meeting management skills
- Strategic planning and organizational development experience
- Ability to work closely with the Executive Director and represent the organization publicly
Treasurer (Priority Position)
We need a financial steward to oversee fiscal responsibility and guide financial planning. Essential qualifications include:
- Professional background in finance, accounting, or related field (CPA preferred)
- Experience with non-profit financial oversight and budgeting
- Knowledge of charity financial reporting requirements
- Ability to chair the Finance Committee and present financial reports to the board
Up to Two Additional Board Members
We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Philanthropy, fundraising, and donor stewardship
- Marketing, communications, and digital strategy
- Government relations and policy development
- Museum, heritage, tourism, or education sector experience
- Business development and strategic partnerships
Commitment Requirements
- Three-year renewable term (maximum nine years total)
- Minimum five board meetings annually (hybrid options available)
- Service on at least one committee (approximately 10 additional hours per year)
- Personal financial contribution and/or active fundraising participation
- Fiduciary responsibility and adherence to governance policies
