Community Member Positions on Standing Committees of the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors (Board) at St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s) has six (6) Standing Committees (Committee(s)) and each of these committees has community member positions in addition to Board members.  Community members play an important role in governance and are valued by the Board. They contribute through their diverse experience, skills and knowledge in support of the committee’s mandate.

St. Joseph’s is currently inviting applications from individuals interested in being considered for appointment for a one-year term starting in June 2025 on a standing committee of the Board of Directors for the following committees:  

  • Governance
  • Health Care Ethics
  • People & Mission
  • Quality
  • Resource Planning & Audit
  • Investment Subcommittee of Resource Planning & Audit

We encourage applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, perspectives and religions.

Members of a Committee (collectively Directors and Community Members) are responsible for the following:  

  • Attending relevant orientation sessions;
  • Adhering to all Board and relevant St. Joseph’s corporate policies;
  • Preparing for and attending all meetings;
  • Actively participating in all deliberations of the Committee; 
  • Developing and contributing to positive relations among the Committee Members and support staff to enhance St. Joseph’s Mission;
  • Participating in the annual committee evaluation process and Committee Member self-evaluation process;
  • Participating in professional development opportunities related to the role of Committee Member which will be offered through the Governance Office;
  • Support of the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Objectives of St. Joseph’s.

Time Commitment: Two (2) committees meet monthly between September and June, while the other four (4) committees meet between two (2) and five (5) times between September to June.  Meetings are in-person and virtual and take place in the morning for approximately two hours.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of board governance as delineated in the Board’s skills matrix;
  • Professional or volunteer experience with a passion to serve their community;
  • A commitment to and understanding of St. Joseph’s Mission, Vision and Values and legacy and commitment to further the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph (our founders);
  • A commitment to understanding of the principles of health care quality and safety;
  • Diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating and building consensus among diverse individuals;
  • Personal qualities of integrity, tact, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of those St. Joseph’s serves; and
  • Ability to bring visibility to and enhance the profile of St. Joseph’s


At this time, St. Joseph’s is looking for potential candidates with experience or specific skills sets in accounting (i.e. CPA designations), legal/corporate governance, working understanding of information technology systems and those who are senior business executives (broad system perspectives).   

Duration of Term: Community members serve a one (1) year term which may be renewed up to two (2) times for a maximum of three (3) years.
