The Role
We are looking for volunteer Finance Committee members. We are seeking individuals who are action-oriented and interested in sharing their expertise. within a very active non-profit.
Finance Committee is a diverse, hands-on committee, with members working together to maintain a robust set of financial policies and practices, and to assist staff by overseeing finance and audit related tasks. The committee consists of 2-3 Board Directors and 3-6 committee members. The committee undertakes projects and objectives in alignment with ReForest London’s strategic plan, as well as tackling emergent issues as they develop. There are lots of opportunities to build new skills and knowledge.
Committee Responsibilities
- Oversee the organization’s financial and control systems
- Assist in the planning, budgeting and forecasting processes
- Review financial reports and internal financial statements
- Ensuring compliance with accounting principles and standards
- Monitor adherence to the budget.
- Create, approve, and update (as necessary) policies and procedures related to finance and treasury.
- Ensure approved financial policies and procedures are being followed.

Qualifications
- Knowledge in NPO/charitable organizational finance would be an asset
- Experience in one or more financial areas, such as budgeting, asset management, financial management, risk management and audits
- Strong analytical and business management skills
- Ability to take initiative and independently prioritize own work
- Post-Secondary education in Finance or Accounting is an asset, but not mandatory
Time Commitment
The committee meets the second Monday of each month for 1.5-2 hours, plus approximately 2 hours of work between meetings.
