Description:
The Marketing Assistant will support the development and implementation of marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives to raise awareness of S.W.I.M.’s programs and services. This role is ideal for a creative, organized, and motivated individual who wants to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience in nonprofit marketing and communications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Social Media & Content Creation

  • Assist in managing S.W.I.M.’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram)
  • Create engaging written, graphic, and video content (flyers, carousels, brochures, reels, stories) using Canva
  • Schedule and publish posts for events, workshops, and campaigns
  • Support live social media engagement during events (e.g., Facebook Live, Instagram Stories)


2. Community Engagement & Communications

  • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries across platforms
  • Support the management of S.W.I.M.’s Facebook Community Group
  • Assist with email campaigns, newsletters, and marketing communications (Mailchimp)
  • Help develop creative strategies to grow online presence and audience engagement


3. Event Support

  • Take photos and short videos at events and upload them to Google Drive
  • Support event promotion through social media, email, and community outreach
  • Assist the Events team in cross-promotional activities


4. Marketing & Administrative Support

  • Assist in market research and identifying trends to enhance outreach
  • Support the onboarding process for new marketing/social media volunteers
  • Help maintain organized marketing files, media libraries, and campaign reports
  • Propose new ideas for marketing initiatives and outreach campaigns


Requirements:

  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Experience with Canva or other design tools
  • Interest in social media and digital marketing trends
  • Creative thinker with attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Valid vulnerable sector check


Preferred:

  • Experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field (education or volunteer/work experience)
  • Photography and videography skills
  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms
