Description:
The Marketing Assistant will support the development and implementation of marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives to raise awareness of S.W.I.M.’s programs and services. This role is ideal for a creative, organized, and motivated individual who wants to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience in nonprofit marketing and communications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Social Media & Content Creation
- Assist in managing S.W.I.M.’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram)
- Create engaging written, graphic, and video content (flyers, carousels, brochures, reels, stories) using Canva
- Schedule and publish posts for events, workshops, and campaigns
- Support live social media engagement during events (e.g., Facebook Live, Instagram Stories)
2. Community Engagement & Communications
- Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries across platforms
- Support the management of S.W.I.M.’s Facebook Community Group
- Assist with email campaigns, newsletters, and marketing communications (Mailchimp)
- Help develop creative strategies to grow online presence and audience engagement
3. Event Support
- Take photos and short videos at events and upload them to Google Drive
- Support event promotion through social media, email, and community outreach
- Assist the Events team in cross-promotional activities
4. Marketing & Administrative Support
- Assist in market research and identifying trends to enhance outreach
- Support the onboarding process for new marketing/social media volunteers
- Help maintain organized marketing files, media libraries, and campaign reports
- Propose new ideas for marketing initiatives and outreach campaigns
Requirements:
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Experience with Canva or other design tools
- Interest in social media and digital marketing trends
- Creative thinker with attention to detail
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Valid vulnerable sector check
Preferred:
- Experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field (education or volunteer/work experience)
- Photography and videography skills
- Knowledge of email marketing platforms
