A Different Kind of Board

We’re not building a typical board - and we are not looking for typical board members.

At Young London, we’re creating space for young people to lead, to question, and to reimagine how our city can work better for the next generation. Our board reflects that spirit: curious, collaborative, a little radical, and not afraid to shake things up.

We are currently looking for experienced, down-to-earth leaders who want to mentor, coach, and champion our emerging board as we step into a bold new chapter. If you’re energized by supporting young changemakers, open to new ways of doing things, and eager to leave the world better for the next generations - this might be the perfect fit.

About Young London

Young London is an organization by young people, for young people. We amplify the voices of the next generation through civic engagement, social good initiatives, NextGen workplaces, and by bringing young voices to community issues.

Founded in 2011, we grew from a grassroots youth council into a nonprofit reimagining how young people can lead, contribute, and change the systems around them. After the disruptions of COVID-19, we’ve relaunched with renewed energy, a clear identity, and a bold vision: to make London a city where young people are valued, heard, and empowered to shape the future.

The Opportunity – Mentor Directors

Our current board is made up of committed, learning leaders who are all-in—but we know we can’t do it alone. We’re seeking mentor directors to guide, support, and grow with us.

We especially need voices with experience in:

  • Fundraising & Philanthropy – helping us build a sustainable culture of giving.
  • Community Connections – opening doors, championing us, and strengthening relationships across the city.
  • Board Governance – helping us develop healthy board culture and strong accountability practices.
  • Finance – supporting oversight and nonprofit best practices.

But above all, we’re looking for people who are:

  • Excited to coach and mentor emerging leaders with respect and patience.
  • Willing to share expertise without ego – your experience is valuable, but so is learning together.
  • Energized by curiosity, creativity, and doing things differently.
  • Committed to equity, inclusion, and building a better future for young people in our city.

What You’ll Do

  • Guide and mentor: Support our board and Executive Director with wisdom, encouragement, and hands-on expertise.
  • Champion our cause: Promote and represent Young London in the community.
  • Strengthen systems: Help us build our fundraising, finances, and governance practices.
  • Be present: Participate in monthly board meetings, our AGM, and the occasional special events.
  • Dig in with us: This is a roll-up-your-sleeves board. Your involvement will have a direct and visible impact.

What We Offer

  • A fun, values-driven culture – collaborative, hopeful, adventurous, and all in.
  • A chance to mentor the next generation of nonprofit leaders while also learning from them.
  • The opportunity to get in touch with your inner young person – radical, curious, and bold. We don’t stick to the status quo; we ask questions, try new things, and go straight to the heart of what matters.
  • A meaningful way to give back to young people and create a better future for your kids, grandkids, society, and our planet.
  • Real impact. Your guidance won’t just sit on paper – it will shape how our board works, how our organization grows, and how young people in London experience leadership.

Time Commitment

  • Join monthly board meetings (approx. 2 hours on the 4th Tuesday of the month @ 5:30)
  • Participate in a committee or two.
  • 5–10 hours per month for at least one year (two years recommended).
  • Other events and meetings, as necessary.

How to Apply

If this sounds like your kind of boardroom – not stuffy, not status quo, but full of energy, vision, and heart – we’d love to hear from you.

Apply by filling out the form HERE.

  • You’ll be asked to upload your resume.
  • No cover letter needed — the form already asks the questions we actually care about.
