VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Board Member

Are you looking to serve on the Board of a growing non-profit organization that supports our community? We have just the opportunity for you to get your hands dirty!

Urban Roots London is currently recruiting three committed community members to serve on an inclusive and supportive Board as we continue our transition from a working board towards a policy-governance board.

Urban Roots London believes that the roots of our community and the roots of our food grow best when they grow together.  We have been able to do this by revitalizing underused land in the City of London for agriculture to produce high-quality organic vegetables, herbs and fruit, and by:

  • Distributing produce locally, most of our produce goes directly to consumers through meaningful community partnerships.
  • Developing employment, social, and educational opportunities for the neighbourhood, schools, and community organizations within the City of London
  • Growing an urban agricultural model to three site around London that meet the needs of those communities.

We welcome you to visit www.urbanrootslondon.ca for more information about what we do and how we do it.

Candidates with prior Board experience are strongly preferred during this time of transition to a governance Board, but it is not required. If you are an individual with an interest in Urban Roots London’s mission, and have experience, knowledge or skills in the following areas, we strongly encourage you to apply:

  • Experience in finances, budgets and accounting, Treasurer position
  • Fundraising
  • Strategic planning

Orientation will be provided.

Board members are asked to attend monthly meetings, farm events and fundraising activities. Committee work is also encouraged and will vary from committee to committee depending on the time of year.

Board meetings are generally 3 hours per month and are presently held virtually. Committee work generally requires 2-3 hours per month to prepare adequately for and attend monthly meetings along with completing committee work.

A three-year term is requested but negotiable.
