The Women’s Rural Resource Centre (WRRC) is recruiting board members for an exciting volunteer experience.

As a board member, you will play a fundamental role in guiding the strategic direction of our organization, supporting our Indigenous Executive Director, Elyssa Rose who we welcomed to WRRC in July of 2023, and ensuring we fulfill our mission. We are now ready to expand our board of directors for this fall. We have 2 spots available for those interested in a seat around our table.

We are a trauma and violence informed organization, supporting women and children impacted by gender-based violence in rural Middlesex County. Our services include a 24-hour help line and emergency shelter for women and children, advocacy to navigate complex systems, a variety of programs and counselling services to promote healing and a community food cupboard. More recently, we now offer Indigenous counselling and in shelter addiction support. We serve over 200 families a year who have experienced abuse in Middlesex County.

We are a collaborative organization, focused on creating healthy and meaningful relationships with our funders, partners, community and neighbours. We actively work to challenge the systems, beliefs and cultural values that perpetuate gender-based violence and oppression. We are advocates of rural communities and are seeking candidates that care about preserving the unique strengths and offerings of our context. We believe our collective lived experience is knowledge and wisdom that guides our governance.

At WRRC, the board members meet 9 times a year with leadership for 1-2 hours on the 4th Wednesday of the month from September to May to receive updates of the team and agency from the Executive Director. We require minimal material review before our meetings. Quarterly, financial reports, program stats, and fund development reports are sent to the board members for review. We host our Annual General meeting in June and then break for the summer. Our Board provides important leadership to the organization, and therefore, we ask our Board members to prioritize meetings and participate to their fullest extent. As a team, we balance our business responsibilities with a spirit of solidarity and fun. We love a good conversation and exploring diverse perspectives. We are respectful to each other and care about the impact of our decisions. Generally, we love our work together and lead with kindness at all times knowing everything we do is for the community we serve.

If this excites you, please submit your cover letter, resume and an expression of interest including your relevant life and work experience, skills and assets, what you believe to be important about gender equity and why you want to be part of the governance team at WRRC.

We recognize that lived experience is a form of knowledge and encourage all interested applicants to apply regardless of formal experience or credentials.
