The London Community Resource Centre (LCRC) is a charitable organization in London, ON, dedicated to building community through food education and security. Our Grow Cook Learn program offers hands-on cooking classes that promote nutrition literacy, foster community connections, and empower individuals. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us with our upcoming Cookie Canvas Workshop: A Nutritious Twist on Decorating. Baking (December 2) will take place at London Intercommunity Health Centre, the workshop (December 3) will be at Reimagine Co., both in London, Ontario. We truly appreciate the support of every volunteer—your time and energy make these events possible!

A Look at the Volunteer Role
There are two separate volunteering days for this event:

December 2 (9:15am-?): Your role is to support our facilitators in baking cookies in preparation for the event the next day.

December 3 (4:30pm-9:30pm): Your role is to support our facilitators and participants, ensuring the event runs smoothly from start to finish.
You may choose to apply for both days or just one, please specify this on your application. Students can only apply for December 3rd.
For December 2, here’s a look at what you’ll be helping out with:
- Setup: Setting up equipment and work station, and preparing ingredients.
- Baking Support: Helping workshop facilitators mix ingredients, portion dough, and baking.
- Storing: Helping with proper packaging and storing of cookies for the next day.
- Clean-up: Washing dishes, wiping down tables and equipment, and sweeping floors.
- Taste testing: Of course we’ll sample some cookies!
For December 3, here’s a look at what you’ll be helping with throughout the evening:
- Setup: Setting up tables, sanitizing equipment, and preparing materials such as piping bags, icing, cookies, etc.
- Workshop Support: Participating in the icebreaker and discussion, assisting with technique demonstration (outlining, flooding, wet-on-wet), and helping participants transition into their groups. Instruction on how to use these techniques would be provided in advance, no experience required.
- Participant Assistance: Offering help with equipment and techniques, creating conversation, and providing encouragement.
- Community Engagement: Sitting with participants to try the cookies and share thoughts.
- Clean-up: Transferring dishes to the dish pit and washing them, wiping down tables and equipment, and sweeping floors.
