WOSEN Entrepreneur Profile - Abeer Ahmed – Avid Sensory Wellness

When Abeer Ahmed’s daughter developed Misophonia – a hypersensitive selective hearing disorder – she felt helpless. There was no Berard Auditory Integration Training where she lives in Windsor, Ont., and her daughter's learning was being compromised. This inspired Abeer to take matters into her own hands. She saw an opportunity to help others who also felt at a loss due to their child’s need for a service that was not available to them through auditory integration training. That’s how Avid Sensory Wellness was born in 2019.

Abeer came to Canada from Cairo in 1996 with a strong medical background. She has worked as a physician and medical specialist, and has obtained her master’s degree in clinical and chemical pathology overseas. Once Abeer passed the Canadian Medical Evaluation Examination in 2006, she immediately started her journey as a vision therapist to help her daughter and other families experiencing the same struggle to access care. She became a certified vision therapist by Vision Therapy Canada in 2017, with the first group certified as such in Canada.

As a life-long learner, she took it upon herself to take the Berard Auditory Integration Practitioner Training, a program that helps reorganize capabilities using frequency, repetition, and duration. This training allowed her to help her daughter and start her business, Avid Sensory Wellness.

Abeer’s goal is to create more wellness resources for her clients, and to provide abundant resources for services that are currently sparse. Currently, Abeer is designing her own vision therapy product, patent pending. WOSEN has been an opportunity for Abeer to receive mentorship and guidance in navigating her business virtually, and learn more about accessing grants and funding.

Abeer’s mantra is, “wellness is for everyone.” She explains that, “people recommend you target a certain amount of people or a certain group of people, because you're never going to be able to please everybody. I think everyone deserves wellness.” Because of her personal experiences, Abeer’s mission is to help others achieve wellness in their lives and for their families by making catered resources widely available.
