WOSEN Entrepreneur Profile - Jamie Lee Arseneau - Naturally Non-Monogamous

Ten years ago, Jamie Lee found herself hiding important aspects of herself—indeed the most fundamental aspect of herself, her capacity to love—from many of her peers because she was afraid of the stigma, the fear, and the shame of publicly identifying as queer and polyamorous. At the time, and still, our society shies away from serious discussions of non-monogamy, perpetuating myths and stereotypes and causing people to hide or suppress their natural impulses for fear of being ostracised from their social groups and communities.

Intrinsically though, Jamie Lee knew that we as humans naturally have more capacity to love, to support and to care for one another, and it was this belief that emboldened her to begin her journey of coming out as a queer polyamorous woman. The choice was life-altering, enabling her to truly connect and engage with her peers; to honour her partners as they deserved; and, to feel accepted and appreciated for who she truly was. She has since continued this journey, confident in the knowledge that if individuals don't speak their truths nothing will ever change; people will continue to believe that the only options before them are monogamy, remaining single, or cheating—while in actuality there exists this whole other beautiful spectrum of choice.

Having dedicated her career to empowering and advocating for others, and driven by her own lived experiences with ethical non-monogamy, Jamie Lee is now incorporating her skills in writing, public speaking, and coaching to provide the safe space that she wished she could have had. She is working to fill that gap; to support, acknowledge, and inspire others who are grappling with those same issues of stigma, social disconnect, and peer judgment. Through her new business, Naturally Non-Monogamous, Jamie Lee is excited to provide access to written media and resources; personal and/or group coaching; and community resources, events and opportunities. She hopes to encourage her clients—especially women—to make informed choices so that they may live authentically and openly as she does, embracing their own truths and seeking out community and acceptance in order to lead healthier, happier, more fulfilling lives.
