Najia embodies selflessness in every aspect of her life. She began her own legal practice in March of 2020 in London, Ontario out of what she felt was a necessity. Due to the pandemic, the majority of the population began working, studying, and primarily existing at home, and tensions in domestic violence intensified. Najia knew her services were needed more than ever.
Mahmud Law is based on the belief that everyone should have access to justice. She provides culturally competent trauma informed legal services so that anyone can feel like they are being cared for like family. Unlike many lawyers, Najia proudly accepts Legal Aid certificates and is on the Domestic Violence Advice Panel, ensuring accessibility of her well-informed legal services to the people that need it the most.
Najia is involved in many research projects and programs all focused on issues surrounding domestic violence and family law. Some of these programs include the Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children at Western University, as well as the federal justice department’s HELP toolkit program which involves 75 practitioners around the country and deals with identifying and responding to family violence for family law legal advisors.
Through her professional benevolence, Najia is granting access to legal services for those people who struggle most with cultural, situational, or language barriers. She is an entrepreneur who puts the needs of others first. While other lawyers turn clients away because of their adversities, Najia embraces them and makes sure they are taken care of and have access to all the resources they need. Her passion and drive continue to make a difference in many lives. Learn more about Mahmud Law and the impact their practice is having on the community at large by visiting their website.
