Influencing Workplace Culture Through Creativity and Play (2021)

Session #1 of Transformational Leadership: Leading From the Inside Out 2021 Program
March 24, 2021

Culture is the character and personality of your organization. It's what makes your organization unique and is the sum of its values, traditions, beliefs, interactions, behaviors and relationships.

Leadership directly impacts culture. Your thoughts, behaviours, communication style and how you hold relationships all affect how the culture is shaped and lived. Employee happiness and satisfaction are increased by a positive, connected workplace. Intentionally co-creating your workplace culture through both your leadership style and through shared agreements with staff provides clarity, accountability and alignment.

In our current reality, there is a blanket of heaviness, seriousness and uncertainty impacting our team dynamics. People have reported feeling overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted and generally concerned for the future.

These emotional states hinder collaboration, creative problem-solving, joyful connection and empathy (which are intensely important for effective and resilient workplaces!). With that in mind, and with teams working remotely, we can risk losing a sense of camaraderie and fun with our teams. When was the last time you shared a good belly laugh with coworkers?

This workshop will kick off this series with a highly energetic, fun and playful experience. Laughter helps us get unstuck and instantly shifts perspective. We could all use a little laughter to boost our leadership. Kind and playful humour greatly serves culture - quite simply, work is better when it’s enjoyable!

Learning Opportunity:

  • Explore tools that elevate positivity and creativity in workplace culture

  • Actively practice culture design

  • Enhance your relationship with play and learn how it expands your leadership

  • Experience the wisdom of improvisation and fun. When these principles are practiced at work, teams experience:

    • increased creativity

    • heightened problem-solving skills

    • greater capacity for change

    • innovative approaches to old problems

    • richer collaboration
