We are currently recruiting volunteer positions for the Thames Valley Education Foundation’s Finance Committee. Established in 2001, the Thames Valley Education Foundation (TVEF) is a registered charitable organization affiliated with the Thames Valley District School Board in London. TVEF exists to build partnerships with the community that enhance opportunities in our schools and enrich public education. Our funding comes from local organizations and businesses, grants, and the generous citizens who wish to support us in our mission to enhance the learning experience of students in our community.

To provide enhanced learning opportunities for Thames Valley students by fostering support from all sectors of society.

Our beliefs:

We believe that public education is a collective responsibility of the entire community. We all have a stake in building successful schools. We believe that community support and cooperation are key foundations on which an exemplary public education system can be built. We believe donations tothe Thames Valley Education Foundation help our students prepare for the challenges of tomorrow. TVEF manages several programs that support education and education equity at the TVDSB,including:

The Caring Fund - a funding program created to support students in emergency financial need with items like food, clothing, and school supplies.

Awards and Scholarships – TVEF manages over 620 awards and scholarships on behalf of the TVDSB. A significant portion of the TVEF investment portfolio consists of individual award/scholarship trusts.

Best First Day - TVEF’s annual Backpack Campaign, where we provide backpacks and schoolsupplies to students in need so all learners can have their best first day back at school.

Learning Enhancement Fund - a unique funding program that supports enhanced learning opportunities for students at Thames Valley.

Role:

We seek individuals who are results-oriented and willing to contribute their professional expertise. The Finance Committee is comprised of five members and functions as an engaged, collaborative body dedicated to maintaining sound financial policies and practices, while providing oversight and guidance on finance and audit matters. In addition to advancing initiatives aligned with our strategic plan, the committee also addresses emerging financial issues as required. Participationon the committee offers an opportunity to enhance professional skills and expand knowledge while making a meaningful contribution to the organization.

Committee Responsibilities:

 Provide oversight of the organization’s financial management and internal control systems.

 Support the development of annual plans, budgets, and financial forecasts.

 Review financial statements and internal financial reports.

 Through liaising with the TVEF auditor, ensure compliance with established accounting principles and standard.

 Monitor performance against the approved budget.

 Develop, approve, and update financial and treasury-related policies and procedures as required.

 Ensure adherence to approved financial policies and procedures.

Time Commitment:

The committee meets 7 times each year for 1-1.5 hours, plus approximately 1-1.5 hours of work between meetings.

Skills Preferred: 
Knowledge of financial practices within the not-for-profit or charitable sector is considered an asset
Experience in one or more areas of finance, including budgeting, asset management, accounting, financial management, risk management, or auditing.
Demonstrates strong analytical and business management skills
Proven ability to take initiative and effectively prioritize work independently
Post-secondary education in Finance or Accounting is an asset, though not a requirement
